To Honor A Horseman and A Friend
On Friday, March 25, Dr. Ty Wallis of Equine Athletes left our world unexpectedly for the next, leaving behind his beautiful and deeply loved wife Kristen and daughter Hattie, and a gaping hole in thousands upon thousands of hearts in our Arabian horse community.
A natural born leader, Ty was so many things to so many people. Friend. Son. Horseman. Entrepreneur. Partner. Mentor. Pilot. Philanthropist. Equine Veterinarian and Surgeon Extraordinaire. And most importantly, above all else, an amazing husband and so very proud father to his beautiful girls, wife Kristen and daughter Hattie.
Ty also shared an extraordinary bond with another young philanthropist who left us, as he did, long before her time. Vail Johnson, an avid Arabian young horsewoman and neighbor to Ty, Kristen and Hattie, passed away unexpectedly herself when she was nine years old, and her family has since established a foundation in her honor that was a favorite charity of the Wallis family and Equine Athlete's, the clinic Ty founded with partner Brad Hill.
The Friends of Vail Foundation promotes education and literacy, sportsmanship, and encouragement to young riders through its programs and scholarships, and is publishing many of young Vail's stories as it awards scholarships to young equestrians and school mates of Vail. Dr. Ty was her veterinarian, and they were deep friends. It is our sincerest hope that Vail was waiting to greet him upon his ascension.
The void Ty's passing will leave in his family's life, along with so many others, will be impossible to fill, but if you would like to honor his memory in either or both ways, it will certainly send a great deal of courage and love to Hattie and Kristen as they begin navigating this new journey in front of them while remembering him through two causes that were far, far the better for his unfailing support.
